Message From Coach Aaron! posted July 2, 2011

There has been some miscommunication about how the coaches want missed meets and missed practices communicated. If your swimmer is going to miss a meet, it would help me greatly if there is a separate email for each missed meet. For example:

     subject: MSM: Aaron Hardin 7/5

and then in a separate email:

     subject: MSM: Aaron Hardin 7/12

or:

subject: MSM: Aaron Hardin "Divisional Champs" 7/16

Attention Marlins Graduated Seniors! posted June 26, 2011

The Maple Hills Marlins Swim Club Scholarship Program is available to students who have graduated from high school and are accepted to and will be attending an accredited college or university in the fall of this current year.  Applicants must be a current member of the team with a minimum high school GPA of 2.5.

We operate the scholarship program, which is in its fourth year, because:

  1. It provides an incentive for parents and students alike to consider sticking with the swim team into their high school years when the commitment becomes more difficult due to schedule conflicts, active social lives, and apathy.
  2. Our older kids contribute to the team by working with the younger swimmers, serving as Big Buddies, etc., and we want to reward that effort.  We want them to know they’re appreciated and that we care about their future.
  3. We want to demonstrate our strong commitment to kids and community, in addition to competition.

If you are interested in this scholarship, complete the scholarship application and turn it in to the scholarship chair, Marcy Rand. The deadline for turning in your application is Saturday, July 16, by 5 pm.  You can submit the application to Marcy at B Champs or make other arrangements by contacting Marcy at 425-227-8393 or 425-289-6623 or by email at ograymar@msn.com.  Turning it in early is, of course, perfectly acceptable as well.  ;-)

We still have some open spots that need filling.  Please contact Kim George if you can help out!

Missing A Meet? Notify Us Please! posted June 5, 2011

Coach Aaron needs to have knowledge of your swimmers absence from a meet via email the Friday before the next week's meets. Aaron does the lineups for both the Tuesday and Thursday meets on Monday. If he knows the Friday before, he can fill out the lineups with those absences in mind. Of course, there are exceptions for illnesses or injuries.

If your swimmer is unable to attend a meet, please send an email to marlins@maplehills.org with the subject: "MSM: <insert swimmer name here>" (MSM stands for Missing Swimmer Meet). For example:

     Subject: "MSM: Austin Briggs"

If your swimmer is going to miss a practice, use the subject: "MSP: <insert swimmer name here>".   For example:

     Subject: "MSP: Austin Briggs"

Inside the email body, indicate which meet or practices your child is going to miss.

Last year with Coach Dani at the helm, we never had to make changes to the lineup the day of the meet.  Last minute changes delay the start of the meet and is painful for the coaches and computer techs. Please help us out and let Coach Aaron know when your swimmer is going to miss a meet!!

Dryland Practice Before Hitting the Water posted June 5, 2011

As in years past we will be doing dryland excercises before getting in the water. During this time we will do things like stretching and yoga, core and body strengthening exercises, and information talks. Every group should arrive and be ready to work with one of the coaches 15 minutes before the posted start time (e.g. 14&Unders should arrive at the pool at 3:45). This is something our team has done for two years now and we believe it has given us a competitive edge. Given our Division II status this year we feel it can be very useful training tool! Thanks from coaches!
